Here’s your weekly update on what different members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement* are doing.
Sri Lanka conflict: As fighting continues to devastate civilians and the medical services in Sri Lanka, the ICRC has again reminded both parties to the conflict of their obligation to comply with international humanitarian law in all circumstances.
Philippines kidnapping: More than 100 days have passed since the ICRC’s Eugenio Vagni was kidnapped. Fellow abductees Mary Jean Lacaba and Andreas Notter are now back with their families. The ICRC’s head of operations for East Asia, South-East Asia and the Pacific, Alain Aeschlimann, comments on the current situation.
Afghanistan flash floods: Flash floods from heavy rains between late March and early April have destroyed wells and killed farm animals. Find out how the Red Crescent is helping.
*The Movement is made of 186 National Societies (including the British Red Cross), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
