girl-with-bandaged-headAnother crazy day here, no sooner have I updated all our comms info then a new development happens.

We’re now deploying a second emergency response unit (ERU),  which specialises in mass sanitation and is flying to Haiti tomorrow morning.

Our logistics ERU, which is based in the Dominican Republic, is already co-ordinating the distribution of relief.

The Red Cross has already sent sixteen specialist ERUs  from around the world, including experts in water and sanitation, logistics, IT and telecommunication infrastructure, health facilities and medical aid.

SharonI’ve just finished interviewing Sharon Reader, who’s a member of our mass sanitation ERU and will be going to Haiti to provide further support in helping prevent the outbreak of disease.

Listen to her interview and find out more.

Follow Sharon and other members of the emergency response teams in Haiti on our live international delegate blog.

We are just so proud of our Sharon, from all the team here in Northern Scotland. We just know she will do a fantastic job with the mass sanitation team in saving lives and changing lives in Haiti. So many of us here wish we could be out there on the ground making a difference and will be doing everything possible locally to support the incredible work being done in Haiti.

Just like to say how proud I am of my niece and to let her know all the family back in Scotland are thinking about her and the team and sending all our best wishes. It is a really awful situation but I know Sharon and her colleagues are well trained for this type of operation. So take care everyone and look forward to seeing you when you eventually get back to the UK.
