A slightly later update, a very busy day!
Day three turned out to be an incredible success. We were working in Milton Keynes with Buckinghamshire fire & rescue service to teach local young people from Connexions.
We ran our usual session, teaching basic safety at a road incident and then lifesaving skills such as the recovery position and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Then came the firemen! They used a demonstration car to
show how they make a car safe and cut off the roof. We then, with the help of the firemen, showed how they remove someone from a car using a special stretcher. Exciting stuff!
The young people (and the peer educators) found the session really interesting and it was great to see how the fire service work as a team to help a casualty. We had some really positive feedback – “I thought the lesson of first aid in an accident was really interesting and I really learnt a lot! I now am prepared!”
As I sit here typing the other peer educators are teaching a local housing association group in Lee on Solent. Fergus will post an update later this evening!
