Here at the British Red Cross, we don’t offer pet first aid courses. However, our colleagues at the American Red Cross certainly do – here’s the proof!
So, would you offer your dog cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if you needed to? Would you save a fish that’s drowning? Oh, that’s right, fish don’t drown – OK, would you put your hamster’s fractured leg in a splint?
If you’d help your pet, then why not brush up on how to help a human? There’s loads of ways to do it. You could look at the first aid tips on our website, get yourself booked on to one of our many first aid courses, read our first aid manual or even learn first aid at school. Maybe you’re particularly concerned about children first aid. If so, our website will help.
With a bit of creativity I’m sure many of these skills are transferrable to pets too!
Anyone got any interesting pet first aid stories to tell? If so, I’d love to hear them!
