CPR marathon

Whilst casually browsing Facebook today (in my lunch break, of course), I came across this crazy venture: http://www.justgiving.com/eufasadult chest compress.jpeg

Students at Edinburgh University First Aid Society are planning to carry out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a dummy.

For two whole days.

Anyone who’s done a first aid course before will know what a challenge this is! For those that haven’t, CPR involves pushing on someone’s chest if they are not breathing. You need to depress the chest around 4-5cm each time. This requires quite a bit of force! Normally on our first aid courses we ask people to do CPR for around 3 minutes (not 2 days!).

Of course whilst they do this they’ll be raising valuable funds for the Red Cross. They also plan to teach members of the public lifesaving skills and spread the message about the importance of first aid.

Personally though, I think I’ll stick to jumping out a plane

Two DAYS?! Their biceps are gonna be incredible. Forget boxing classes and yoga; do CPR!

Chris, do you know of any first aid techniques that work the abs and glutes?

  2. Katrina, yes…I think we should have CPR dummies in gyms. Would be a great workout!

I’m afraid I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head…its back to the diet for me.

Thanks for promoting this event :)

As for other exercises I can think of

    - The spinal board lift (with varying casualty weights)
    - The carry chair stair climb (hmm perhaps going the wrong way on an escalator)
    - The resus run (across a field with bags of kit)
    - The wheelchair push
    - The recovery race (two lines of people acting unconscious and having to put each in the recovery position)
