Animal news quiz
1. Earlier this year, an Australian surfer survived a shark attack by punching the animal square in the mush, but still suffered a ‘pretty horrendous’ gash to his right leg. How should you treat a severe bleeding injury to a limb?
A. Tie something tightly around the limb above the level of the injury to stem the flow of blood.
B. Press on the wound with your hand and secure with a bandage, then raise the injured limb above heart level.
C. If possible, place the limb in warm water to stop blood-flow and keep the wound clean.
2. A man recently set himself on fire by spraying an aerosol can at a spider behind his toilet, then flicking his lighter to have a better look. What’s the first thing you should do to treat a burn injury?
A. Place the affected area under cold running water for at least ten minutes.
B. If available, use ice to cool the burn-affected area immediately.
C. Rub butter or margarine onto the affected area to cool the injury
3. A woman was shocked recently to discover she’d been caught on CCTV throwing someone’s cat into a wheelie bin. What’s the best way to treat someone suffering from shock?
A. Sit the person down and give them a small plastic bag to breathe in to.
B. Lay the person down, reassure them and support their legs above the level of their heart.
C. Suggest that they don’t throw someone’s cat into a bin in the first place.
