Red Cross hits the party conferences

It’s that time of year again. David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband are putting the finishing touches to their speeches, and thousands of party supporters preparing for their annual pilgrimage to chilly, over-sized halls in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. Political party conference season is upon us again.

But as the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Conservatives get stuck into a frantic round of debates, fringe meetings and specifying in their respective cities, the Red Cross will also be there with one clear message: make sure first aid and humanitarian education stay included as a core part of the national curriculum.

The Department for Education is currently reviewing the primary and secondary national curriculum in England to assess what essential knowledge and skills should be taught to children. We believe pupils of all ages should have the opportunity of accessing first aid and humanitarian education.

That’s why we’ve launched an advocacy campaign encouraging MPs to support a new parliamentary petition calling for just that. You can show your support by emailing your MP and asking them to sign the petition – it only takes a minute.

The Red Cross will also have an exhibition stand at each conference promoting our work with schools and teachers. You can come and see us at the following stands: Liberal Democrat: R2; Labour: 16; Conservatives: 133

We’ll also be meeting with and listening to key members of each party as they explain their views on future reforms affecting the delivery of social care in the UK. You can join us at the following sessions:

Liberal Democrats: (8.00 -10.30pm) Hall 10a, ICC, Birmingham
Labour: (8:00 – 10:00pm) Hall 11b, ACC, Liverpool
Conservatives: (6:30 – 9:00pm) Exchange 11, Manchester Central, Manchester

If you want to find out more about what we’ll be doing at each party conference, just email publicaffairs@redcross.org.uk
