Blogs highlighting the work of staff and volunteers within the British Red Cross, part of the largest humanitarian organisation movement in the world.

We’re halfway through Red Cross Appeal Week, our annual fundraising week, and our staff and volunteers up and down the country (and world) have been out raising money and letting people know about the Red Cross’ amazing work.
In fact, we’ve even managed to get the prime minister in on the act.
That’s right, Gordon Brown found a bit of time to meet some of our fundraisers on his doorstep and make his own contribution to Appeal Week.
You don’t have to live at number 10 to take part, because there are events happening right across the country. We’ve had almost 40 volunteers hitting the City of Manchester Stadium before Saturday’s Premier League game between Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, where they managed to raise £1,600.
Today was Wig Wednesday at my office – everyone donned a wig for a bit of Candi Staton and helped raise £438 in three and a half minutes.
And Appeal Week has even reached the Caribbean – schoolchildren joined volunteers from the Turks and Caicos Islands Red Cross to form a human red cross on one of the islands.
Some other kids a bit closer to home – a primary school in Portsmouth – recorded a single called ‘No Wars Will Stop Us Singing’ for a fundraising music DVD.
So if you see anyone out collecting, especially if they’re dressed in red, give them lots of support. All the money raised this week supports the Red Cross work in Britain and across the world, so if you don’t spot a Red Cross collector in your hometown, you can donate to Appeal Week online.
