Forget the Ashes

The weather in London looks dodgy over the next several days, just in time for the second test to be played at Lord’s.

So if you were planning to be glued to your TV – or to your seat at Lord’s – to watch England beat Australia (or vice versa; we’re impartial here at the Red Cross), you might find you have a lot of extra time on your hands.

Never fear! We’ve got a way for you to spend your time.

Right now, we’ve got a free exhibition running at the oxo gallery on London’s Southbank.

Humanity in War is an exhibition of photographs showing the sacrifices and compassion of humanitarians working in war zones. Its poignant images cover the last 150 years and reflect the many ways Red Cross volunteers and staff ease the suffering of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Find all the pertinent details (like opening times) on our website. You can also read raving reviews of the exhibition on the BBC’s Viewfinder blog and the Times Online.

If you can’t make it to the exhibition, there’s a selection of photos on the ICRC’s website, and a book for sale through the New Internationalist website.

So why not escape the rain by nipping into the gallery before it finishes this Sunday and letting yourself be inspired? And did I mention it was free?

If you’ve seen the exhibition or bought the book, leave a comment here to let us know what you thought.

I went to the exhibition yesterday and was really glad I’d made the time to go. The images span such a wide range of conflicts and really captured the emotions of their subjects. It’s a very moving exhibition – definitely go if you can.
