It’s all gone a bit Christmas quackers

Ah seasons greetings, feliz Navidad and bah humbug to all. In between eating far too many mince pies and decking the Duck Baghalls on Saturday, I went on my first foray into Christmas shopping. Now being a sensible Londoner I try to avoid Oxford street on a weekend in order to preserve my sanity and avoid being crushed by the crowds.

But what with the season of (ahem) goodwill, I need to venture forth in order to purchase gifts for my adoring family and friends. Which means I need to go and fight with a lot of irate shoppers to try and get the last power rangers doll that my nephew so desperately desires, and frantically search for something that my mother will, A - appreciate, B – use and C – has not already been bought by one of my four (ever so slightly more organised) siblings.

Obviously the idea of fighting my way through crowds and queuing for hours at the check out, is not my perfect way to spend a cold damp weekend. So as much as possible I will try to shop online, power ranger toys are delivered to your door without even having to fight off any other shoppers. However that still leaves my darling mother, what on earth does one buy a serial hoarder of the ‘make do and mend’ generation? She already owns everything. Even when I tactically break kitchen items in order to make my life easier she manages to glue them together as if nothing ever happened. I can only assume she has some kind of kiln and pottery repair workshop hidden under the house.

Charity virtual gifts have been a brilliant option for the past few years, but it is always nice to have something to unwrap on Christmas day. I do feel slightly bad when all I produce for her on a Christmas morning is a letter stating which charity she is helping this Christmas. Luckily working for the Red Cross has given me the perfect solution.

This year you can give a donation and receive a free cotton shopping bag with a duck or cow design on it. Perfect for my mother who would rather not grow her plastic bag collection any larger and still with the warm fuzzy feeling that her Christmas gift is helping others! And joy of joys it is delivered to my door! Complete with card, if only there was gift wrapping included my life would be complete. I wonder if I send some to relatives we don’t see at Christmas whether I can get away with sending several of these without looking unimaginative?

‘Where do I get mine!’ I hear you cry, you can get your mits on one of our high fashion bags by donating to either our  ducks campaign or our cows campaign. So you too could receive a beautiful cotton bag (pictured above) just like my mum on Christmas morning!
