Three guys, one taxi and a 50,000km trip to Sydney for the longest ever cab ride. That’s the adventure that three friends – Johno, Leigh and Paul – embarked on today in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest taxi journey and raise £20,000 for the Red Cross.
I interviewed Johno about the It’s on the Meter challenge back in September and today I was among the crowd that waved them off from Covent Garden’s Transport Museum.
Speaking at the launch, Johno said: “We’ve spent two years planning this so it’s hard to believe the day has finally arrived. The last few weeks have been crazy finalising everything – I think we’ve averaged about three hours sleep a night.
“But now our taxi, or Hard Hearted Hannah as we’ve named her, is ready to go. We’ve even fitted a snorkel so she can drive through rivers!”
Spanning four continents, 39 countries and ten time zones, it’s set to be the trip of a lifetime and, with more than my own fair share of wanderlust, it was a struggle not to beg them to let me join. Look at this map outlining their journey:
Can you imagine the stories they’ll have to tell? Luckily, they’re not strangers to the world of social media so we’ll be able to follow their adventures on Twitter, Facebook and the It’s on the Meter blog.

And if you want to sponsor them, visit the It’s on the Meter JustGiving page.
Good luck guys – we’re sure it’ll be amazing!

Victoria used to write about all things fundraising for the British Red Cross, but now she's working overseas.
