The British Red Cross has kicked off its Christmas calendar with a series of festive events in the capital.

Recession-proof fashion

Pippa Middleton opened a specialist designer and vintage sale at the British Red Cross shop in Chelsea today (29 November), which has been keeping aside the very best donated fashion items for the occasion. Customers saw beautiful pieces from Alexander McQueen and Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Dior, and browsed for high-end bargains in time for Christmas.

Shop volunteer Norma Buhler said: “It was such a pleasure to meet Pippa. She was so sweet, it is so amazing of here to come and do this for the Red Cross – she said she often walks past and looks in and she wanted to do something for us.”

Shopper’s paradise

The shopping season began in earnest with a wine and canapés event to open our annual Christmas fair at Kensington Town Hall yesterday (28 November). Gloria Hunniford, our guest speaker, said: “I am particularly glad to be supporting the British Red Cross. This is a charity which really deserves our support at Christmas time. Your shopping can help people facing crisis across the world and in your home town at the same time.”

On the day itself, there was something for everyone, whether families preparing for a busy holiday season, young couples celebrating their first Christmas together, or simply curious passers-by wondering what all the fuss was about.

Over 70 stallholders transformed KensingtonTown Hall into a shopper’s paradise, with gifts ranging from the quirky to the traditional. With fantastic prizes on offer, mouth-watering food, and the reward of getting Christmas shopping out of the way early, this was both a great day out, and a fun and festive way to support the Red Cross.

If you missed these events, you can still buy festive items to benefit the Red Cross from our online gift shop.
