Mike Adamson Red Cross CEO at bake sale with Co-op staff from Malmsbury store as part of the Big Red Weekend.

A flurry of fundraising fun swept across the UK at the weekend as employees of The Co-operative Group marked this year’s Red Cross Week.

From bake sales to sponsored cycles, raffles to slime baths, Co-op staff were busy raising funds as part of our charity partnership to help tackle loneliness and social isolation across the UK.

Last month it was announced that The Co-op had already raised £1million towards this partnership – so we were excited to see what went down at Co-op stores all over the country for the Big Red Weekend.

Wide reach

The Big Red Weekend reached communities at all levels – including our chief executive who visited his local Co-op in Malmesbury.

Even people’s pets got in on the action.

Getting messy

Co-op stores in Aldridge and Kirkham gave customers the chance to throw squirty-cream plates or tomatoes at their employees.

While over in Blackpool, employees took a dip in a bath full of slime.

Cakes aplenty

Bake sales and food raffles were popular activities all over, including at these stores in Prestwick and Heworth.

 Soapy bubbles

Elsewhere, employees grabbed buckets and sponges to create pop-up car washes.

Racking up the miles

Over in Tarporley, The Co-op gathered people to contribute to a 10 mile walkathon on a treadmill in their store, while other employees took on a half marathon.

Bald ambition

At The Co-op store in Beverley, a young man called Tom took part in a sponsored head shave.

 A great success

The Co-operative Group has proved you really can put the fun in fundraising.

They will also donate 50 pence to the Red Cross for every member that votes at their upcoming annual general meeting on 21 May.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all The Co-op’s employees, members and customers for their involvement so far.

Clearly The Co-op is on a fundraising roll – we can’t wait to see what you get up to next.
