Saturday was the day that judges of the Red Cross’ Humanitarian Citizen Awards had to read through hundreds of nominations that people had sent in the hopes their ‘hero’ would win.
The awards recognise the incredible difference young people can make in the lives of others.
As a judge, it was heart warming to read people’s stories, from a three-year-old girl who phoned 999 when her mum was having a sezuiure, to groups of young people who are educating others about binge drinking.
For some people, they don’t realise that they have committed a humanitarian act and it’s just part of their everyday life. Nominations for this year’s award are now closed, but if you know a young person who has done something amazing, why not tell us their story in the comments below?
This year’s winners will be presented with the award at the House of Commons, along with runners up and other nominees
